I found this a decent Xmas story with some quite quirky characters, a quite good main plot and a couple of interesting sub plots to throw red herrings into the investigation and a fair amount of humour and a pretty solid and spectacular ending with most of the stories tied up reasonably well. Although I had the culprit figured out well before the climax there was still enough doubt and evidence needed to keep it an interesting read for me.
Now to m OK Xmas Read with a bit of a recurring problem. Now to my pet peeve which knocks at least one star off of this book. I do not like to, nor want to, read preview excerpts from future books as, when starting the next book, it makes me think I've already read this book and I will probably abandon it right then.
In this case though I doubt if I'll read any more in this series unless I find another with a Xmas theme or maybe tied to some other holiday. Dec 12, Julie rated it it was ok. I thought it was a Christmas love story so when it arrived in the mail with a skeleton on the cover, I took a closer look.
A Guide to Cozy Mystery (and Other Favorite) Books, Movies, and TV
Turns out this is a murder mystery and part of a series. It is a light and relatively quick read, but I had trouble identifying with any of the characters. I am not a middle aged army housewife that likes to solve cases, but thought I could still find some common ground. I also had trouble identifying the foreshadowing clues. It was obvious that one certain person was involved, but when the true killer is revealed, I still found the motive hazy. Also, it seemed like the novel was headed toward having Gabrielle be a main part of it, and then she just stops appearing until the end.
I think there may have just been too many characters overall for such a short novel - husband, best friend, nemesis, murder victim, hoarder, and a million more army wives and detectives. I guess it does open itself up to more books.
Aug 06, Julie Barrett rated it really liked it. Mistletoe, Merriment, and Murder by Sara Rosett Have enjoyed other mystery books by this author and this one is around Christmas. Starts out with a military spouses gift exchange at Elle's house and she meets up with another pro organizer, such as her career and finds out Gabrielle is taking her clients from her and has gotten the new job.
Things around town are dire, house breakin's, and now a murder. Elle is suspected as the clues lead to others who have alibi's. She helps to solve the mystery wi Mistletoe, Merriment, and Murder by Sara Rosett Have enjoyed other mystery books by this author and this one is around Christmas. She helps to solve the mystery with clues of her own and asking others questions. Love how the community works, helping one another, especially Helping Hands organization to provide food and other essential thing.
What I also liked about this book si the organizing tips for Christmas especially in every other chapter and other tips and notes. Lots of characters but it's easy to keep them all straight. Excerpt from the next new book at the end. I received this book from The Kennsington Books in exchange for my honest review Nov 09, Vicky rated it it was ok. Oh no! Not holiday tips now! Rosett can't keep her story straight from one paragraph to the next. I am so thankful I am on the last book I purchased by this author. I will not purchase the next installment.
So Ellie not only has built in night vision, she can deduce that a clock was set forward 5 minutes, a suitcase was missing from a closet, holly was on apartment brochures, etc. But she doesn't have a clue as to what a bruise looks like. She blurts out questions to "possible" murde Oh no! She blurts out questions to "possible" murder suspects. I have given his entire series an "okay" rating only for the fact that the book is published and some of the blame for the poor writing is the responsibility of the agent and publisher.
I only want to add how grateful I am that I am done with the writings of Sara Rosett. No more. I feel free again from this ridiculous dribble contained in all the pages of the Ellie books. Dec 04, Karen rated it it was amazing Shelves: adult.
